This is a real crossing: you enter the erg from Foum Zguid over the dry bed of Lake Iriki and leave on the other side, through M’Hamid El Ghizlane, the last town before the Sahara proper. With two nights in the dunes there is time to go deep into the erg.
Afterwards the Draa Valley is a green ribbon of date palms and old kasbahs. Tamegroute is known for its green-glazed pottery, and the road continues through Zagora and Agdz.
